Parkway Little League was founded in 1956 to give the children in South Sacramento an opportunity to participate in a wholesome, family oriented activity. Since that time thousands of young boys and girls have benefited from the many men and women who have selflessly donated their time and skills to teach sportsmanship, teamwork, commitment and perseverance. Parkway Little League continues to serve the families in South Sacramento, Laguna, Elk Grove and surrounding areas.
Hope you all are safe and healthy.
Well the good news is that there is great interest in playing baseball this year, even if the games start late and run a bit further into the summer than normal.
Given the data, we are currently looking to start the season on June 6 and complete the season by the first week of August. These dates are just the dates we are currently planning around, they are not set, and will be adjusted based on the guidelines set forth by the City and County of Sacramento. However, without setting some dates and having a plan, we would be caught flat-footed once we are given the green light to play ball, and we definitely will not let that happen.
When we are allowed to engage in games, they will be done under very strict adherence to the guidelines set forth by federal, state and local rules, as well as in conjunction with specific rules to ensure there is a focus on safety. As a league, we are in the process of contacting the Governor's office as well as the Sacramento County Department of Public Health, to let them know some of the measures we think will ensure player safety and ask for guidance on how current social distancing requirements may be modified when games are allowed to be played. By being proactive in our engagement with those who will set the guidelines, we hope to foster a unified vision of safety and fun.
Before games or practices are resumed, there will be an email containing the specific rules that must be followed for participating in and attending games. The rules will be clear and reinforced from the managers, to the team parents, to each one of you. Specifically, we do not know what the rule on the number of people allowed to gather will be, but whatever it is, it will be enforced. Will it mean that some of you do not get to see every game your child plays, perhaps.
Parkway is only so large, so even with the wearing of masks, what ever the guidance is on social distancing and crowd numbers, it will be followed so no one is put at an unnecessary risk for sickness.
Importantly, there are some families that will decide the schedules and rules are too much and decide not to play. The league understands that a whole range of issues plays into each family's decision to play this year.
We will have a season this year!
Coaches please contact us with your plans if you are still on board with coaching this season. The commitment will be from June to August.
Lastly, we would like those who are undecided about participating in playing at Parkway Little League this year to make a firm yes or no decision by May 23.
District 7 is optimistic that we will play this season and may even have a small, district-only All-Star Tournament for the appropriate age group
As always, if you have questions or concerns, send them to Parkwaylittleleagued7@gmail.com
